The Centre is located in rural Sidlesham, an ideal location for our long term residents who enjoy total freedom of the whole site.
Since we started in 1986, we have rescued over 10,000 animals and have made huge number of changes. From one outbuilding, an old caravan and 6 rabbit hutches, we now have 32 purpose built cat pens, 20 indoor rabbit and guinea pig pens, over 20 outside rabbit runs, 8 rabbit compounds, and a 4 pen intensive care unit, and our own vet facility. But the need is as great as ever, and some of our older pens are feeling their age, and need replacing.
Our long term Rabbit residents enjoy the freedom of quiet, purpose built, predator proof enclosures to roam as they wish. The rabbits are of course neutered, and dig large burrows in the mounds we have built them. They have the chance to wash each other, and play, and spend a lot of time in rows next to each other just watching the world go by. We are often called out to wild rabbits with myxomatosis found wandering on roads, sadly there is no cure, and a visit to the vet is the only choice. We have had a few occasions where our rabbits who are regularly vaccinated, get some of the signs of myxi, but have got over it due to the regular vaccination. It is transferred by the flea, so no matter where you keep your rabbit, get him vaccinated.
We have visited and removed plenty of cats and kittens from 'Life of Grime' type places, and once spent over 4 hours rescuing 6 kittens from a hole in the wall of a house over 30 foot up!
But without your help none of this can happen, its been 20 years now and the need for our services in increasing, Cruelty and Neglect will never go away so it is important that you continue or begin to support us. |
