The Mayhew Animal Home is an animal home and humane education and training centre.
Established 118 years ago, today it is one of the busiest sanctuaries in London.
Every year it cares for and re-homes thousands of animals - cats, dogs and rabbits - that have been abused, neglected, abandoned or simply no longer wanted. However, the work of The Mayhew goes far beyond care and re-homing,
and includes: • Animal & Community Outreach • Current Appeals • Education & Teaching • Mayhew International • MEWS •NVQ Programme • Prevention • Volunteers • Fostering

The mission of The Mayhew Animal Home is:

Take in and care for unwanted or abused animals and re-home them with responsible caring owners

Ensure that no healthy animal in our care is ever put to sleep

Promote respect and compassion for animals through our activities, campaigns and education programmes

We believe that animals, as living creatures, are entitled to legal protection, moral and ethical consideration, and have a value beyond economic measurement.

The Mayhew Animal Home's Policy on Re-homing: Because individual situations differ so widely, we strongly encourage all potential pet owners to visit the Mayhew to discuss our policies on re-homing.
This entails an informal interview to make sure that you are aware of the responsibilities of taking on an animal and that the environment is suitable for the animal you wish to adopt.
Before adopting an animal from The Mayhew you will be required to undergo a pre home visit. Post home visits will be carried out after adoption to ensure your new companion is settled and happy.
The adoption fee is £95.00 for a dog incl VAT. The price includes Neutering, Microchipping, Vaccination, Deworm & Deflea, Vet check & Behaviourist check. You will also recieve one months insurance.
This adoption fee is a contribution towards the care of the animals whilst at The Mayhew.
Other costs involved are met through our fundraising efforts.

Each animal is different with one thing in common: they all need love, time and attention.
We work hard to place the correct dog with the right guardians everyday.
We are happy to rehome anywhere in the UK. However potential new guardians must be prepared to carry out a minimum of two trips to The Mayhew Animal Home. Adopters will receive both a pre and post adoption home-visit. Due to the high number of unwanted dogs we are dealing with on a daily basis unfortunately we do not have the time to discuss individual dogs over the phone.
