Houndsavers
is an International Charity helping sighthounds (greyhounds, lurchers etc) from
around the world as well as those in the UK. We are also one of the very few
groups helping dogs in Northern Ireland and the Galgos and Podencos (Ibizan
hounds) of Spain. We work on a regular basis with 17 UK pounds where dogs are
destroyed. Over 95% of our rescue dogs were rescued within hours of losing their
lives. Houndsavers has the ability to act fast in these situations which is
crucial also in the RTA and stray dog situations we are presented
with.
The majority of dogs we help have suffered greatly, mentally and
physically, and we rehabilitate fully before rehoming.
Dogs are cared for
holistically and homeopathic remedies, swimming, massage, manipulation and TT
used where appropriate.
Houndsavers has kennel facilities in various
locations, distance is no object for the perfect home. Homechecks will be
carried out before meeting any suitable dogs and dogs will be neutered,
vaccinated, wormed, microchipped etc before homing.
There is telephone support
24/7 and follow up help for new owners and veterinary support via our vet for
those dogs with severe medical conditions. Houndsavers also aims to help other
rescues who have special needs dogs who need specialist treatment or behavioural
training. Our trustees and area co-ordinators are spread widely across the UK
and we have supporters and contacts worldwide. We help other rescues with
transportation and kenneling facilities.
Houndsavers has between 25-80
dogs in care at any one time and has DEFRA licensed quarantine kennels for 66
dogs. As well as many straight forward happy loving family dogs we do have some
special needs dogs, some blind, deaf, three legged etc and some with vast
emotional baggage who need extra love, care and patience, please consider these
as they have so much love to give in return. There is someone for everyone...our
job is to put the two together.
