| Forest Dog Rescue is a non profit
making charity based in the Wyre Forest area. We save the lives of
over 200 stray and unwanted dogs from within the local area. The
charity has been providing this life saving service now for over ten
years at a cost in the region of £3,500 a month. The charity
survives thanks to donations received from the general public and
local businesses and is run by a handful of dedicated volunteers who
give their time freely.
Even though from time to time we can
struggle to cover all the costs involved, financially we are very
proud to have been able to offer a non destruction policy for over 5
years. This means that no matter how old a dog may be (unless
absolutely necessary) we will care for it until a loving new home can
be found. Unlike more well-known dog rescue charities we have no
rescue centre to call our own but are lucky to receive support from
local kennels that care for the dogs while they are in our trust.
With so many good charities in the
world today the push for fund-raising gets harder every year. Our
team of volunteers face a never-ending challenge of ensuring that
money to support the charity keeps coming in. Two years ago we
launched our “Sponsor A Dog Appeal” this gave the public the
chance to support the rescue for as little as £1 a week. This
appeal has supported the charity through some very hard times,
providing a stable financial lifeline.
In May 2007 we launched our new appeal
to obtain our very own rescue centre. Although we are truly very
grateful to the local boarding kennels that support us, having to
rely on their continued generosity holds no true security for our
future. So “Build-a-Dog-a Home” was launched. This appeal is
quite unlike any other we have undertaken and will involve a
fantastic amount of fund raising effort working with both public and
local businesses alike. Managed by a team of volunteers the projects
development will be run alongside our normal day to day fund raising
events. We believe that operating our own rescue centre which can
shelter all our dogs under one roof will dramatically improve the
chances of getting the dogs into a loving new home. You can find out
more information about “Build-a-Dog-a-Home” on our dedicated
website www.buildadogahome.org.uk
Rescue dogs can make fantastic family
pets and we are always on the lookout for anyone who can offer a
loving new home to a rescue dog. For more information on rehoming and
to meet the dogs or to offer your support please see us at
